This was a great weekend. We were so busy during the week that we did not get very much accomplished as far as preps go.
Friday night I watched Backyard Food Production. It is a DVD that we received from Marjory Wildcraft and have started to carry in the TSP Gear Shop. We have had the DVD for a few weeks and I wanted to watch it Friday because I knew that Marjory was going to be a guest on Coast to Coast AM on Saturday night.
I will do a full review of the DVD later this week.
Saturday night I spent a few hours on Skype with some of the Moderators from TSP. This is a great chat that we have weekly, and I consider it an important part of my preparations.
Sunday I did some research on the computer for some projects that I want to either finish, or start soon.
The rest of the weekend was spent doing things that needed to be caught up.
As usual the weekend was too short and I did not get everything done that I wanted to get done.

This week was full of technology preps.
I love the Galaxy Tab, I have had it a week and have spent that time running it through its paces and loading it up with Apps that I found in the marketplace and others that were recommended by friends.
We put all the links necessary to run the tsp gear shop on our Tabs, and that should help us to keep the store running as smooth as possible. I also put links to my blog dashboard on mine, so that I can make my blog posts from anywhere with out having to take my laptop with me.
Some of the apps that I put on my tab are.
Echolink: this is a Ham Radio application that I am very anxious to spend some time with and become familiar with, I want to learn it inside out.
I-Triage: this is a medical application that enables you to find information on thousands of symptoms, diseases, and medical procedures. It also has a directory of hospitals, urgent cares, and pharmacies nationwide.
Survive: this is the Tsp Android application.
Barnes and Noble Nook: this app lets me access my B&N e-books on the Tab as well as on my Nook. It is a great app, I also have it on my I-Pod touch.
The Weather Channel- A very complete weather information application. Great for planning trips.
KITCO- precious metal prices.
Barcode Scanner- A very cool app that allows you to scan bar codes on items and then look online andd locally for the best prices.
I am sure that I will be adding many more apps to my Tab. If you have any favorite apps that you use, please let me know.

Thinking about things as I am getting ready for bed, I realize just how good my life really is. I am very lucky in lots of ways. Today I turn 55 years old.
I am a very lucky man at 55. I have the best wife in the world, my children are doing well, I have 4 adorable grand children, and I have decent health.
I have made my share of mistakes in my life, but I have few regrets.
I am very excited about the future, the next two years are going to bring big changes to my life, and my good life is only going to get better.

I am going to try and make new blog posts on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
I am going to make a regular post on Monday called “What did you do this week to prep?” This will allow me to post what we did including the weekends. I would really like to hear what you did during that week also, so please leave a comment on what you accomplished.
Wednesdays and Fridays posts will have something to do with either survival, or preparedness. I have lots of ideas, but little time to put things together. I am going to devote more time to this blog.
Blog Changes:
There will be some major changes coming to The Umbafa Chronicles. One thing is that I need to change the theme. I love the theme when I am at my computer, but it is hard to read when using my Galaxy Tab, or my phone. With more and more people using tablets and smart phones lately, I want to find a theme that is easy on the eyes in all platforms.
I have a lot of friends who are blogging more often, and I am going to put links to their blogs on here. I know that you will find some interesting stuff to read and learn a lot from them.
If you are seeing this on Facebook, please go to my blog and subscribe.

This is the first post from my Samsung Galaxy Tab. I am a gadget freak and Tiffany spoiled me with gadgets for my birthday. The Galaxy Tab is an amazing device. We have both wanted one for a long time. It is a 7 inch Android tablet and it does everything that I need a tablet to do. I have been playing with it for two days and still have not learned everything that I can do with it. There are a ton of apps available for it. I am looking forward to learning all the things that I can do with it. I am particularly interested in the survival and preparedness apps, so if you know of any good ones, let me know.
She also got me a Haier 7″ TV. It is battery powered with an internal rechargeable battery. It works really well and picked up over 60 channels when I first set it up.
I also got some really nice ear buds for listening to my I-pod touch. I don’t remember what brand they are, but they have the full controls on them and are very comfortable.
I know that my birthday is not for a few more days, but Tiff usually gives me my presents early.
I do the same thing when it is her birthday. In fact she got one of her presents the other day also. A Samsung Galaxy Tab of her own.
I will try and do some reviews this week of the apps I have found for the Tab, as well as posting some pics of it and the TV.

We got back yesterday from Las Vegas and Shot Show 2011.
We got there Tuesday afternoon and after a quick check in at the condo we headed straight to the show. It was unbelievable the amount of people that were in attendance, the place was packed. We found the Buck Knives booth and met up with Ron Hood, we had brought a box of Survival Quarterly magazines for him to give out during his stint at their booth. He was demonstrating the new Hoodlum blade and he was a very busy man. We checked out the new outdoor gear by Zippo, some of which we hope to be carrying in the gear shop soon.
Wednesday, we headed back to the show and did some walking around just getting a feel for the place. We picked up a few patches from the American Snipers booth, and walked the show just in awe of all the cool stuff. We stopped by the Tops Knives booth and picked up a couple of their Tactical Pens. We checked out the new gear at VooDoo Tactical, SO Tech, and checked out a bunch of others handing out SQ magazines and picking up media kits. On the way back to the condo we stopped by Tommy Bahama’s for dinner.
Thursday, we slept in a bit and met Jeff Sandfort of Sawtooth Tactical for lunch. We spent a couple of hours walking around checking out the show and handing out more magazines. Tiff was actually stopped by a guy from the NRA who saw her SQ sweater and requested a copy of the magazine.
Because Friday was the last day we were up early and off to the show. Ron was free for most of the day so we spent it walking around with him. We hit up Kel Tec and checked out the new KSG shotgun which is very cool and we will be picking up when it is available. We checked out SOG Knives and picked up a couple of things from them that we want to also put in the Gear Shop. We also picked up some knifes from Tops, and ESEE.
We had a great time and are looking forward to next years show which will be held at the same place. If you have never been and have a chance to go I highly recommend it.

We have decided that we are going to quit smoking on January 24th. Why then and not now? We are going to the
Shot Show in Las Vegas the 17th-21st of January. We have tried to quit smoking before and have done really well, until we go to Las Vegas. There is just something about that place that makes it really hard to be an ex-smoker. Especially if you are standing at the crap table. I do not want to set myself up for failure, and besides it is only a few weeks away. If it was a few months away, it would be different.
The main reason that we are quitting is the expense. Smoking is very expensive. A pack of smokes in California runs about 5 bucks a pack. That is a lot of money, especially times 2 people. We go through at least 2 packs a day between us and I smoke more than Tiffany does. I started thinking about things that I purchase or want to purchase in costs per pack and here are some of the examples I came up with.
A new magazine for my Glock = 5.5 packs.
A new Glock 19 = 108 packs.
An ounce of silver = 5.8 packs.
A new I-pad 64gb 3g = 165.8 packs.
This is amazing to me. As a prepper I should have known this, but I was completely ignorant of it.
I know that the major reason for anyone to quit smoking should be for health reasons, and I understand the health benefits. I know that I will feel better and it could add time to my life. These are great benefits and I will gladly accept them. However, the health benefits are secondary to me.
We are saving every penny that we can, and expanding our business as much as we can, in the hope of being able to purchase some land in Tennessee later this year. We are scrimping and saving, denying ourselves almost everything in order to be able to accomplish this. Quitting smoking will enable us to save even more towards this goal, buy some small items that we want, and maybe add a few more ounces of silver to our reserves.

When my beloved Raiders beat the Seattle Seahawks 33-3 in October. I had a bet with Heavy G.
This week I received my winnings.
I think I will have it framed.

Happy New Year my friends, I hope that 2011 is a wonderful year for you and your family.
Some thoughts, on 2011.
Be good to each other and help each other out.
Prepare like you never have before. For peace of mind.
Learn and share information, but do your own research. Do not blindly follow anything or anyone.
Read daily.
Tell your family and friends that you love them, and do it often. I am dead serious about this.
This is a generic list I know. I just wanted to give you some things to think about.
Make 2011 the best year of your life. I know that it will be my best year.
I believe in you.
